The Tommy Stathes Cartoon Carnival

Click here for the online Cartoon Carnival!

The Tommy Stathes Cartoon Carnival is a series dedicated to showing rare, unusual, forgotten, and now rarely seen animation classics—mostly from the 1910s through the 1950s, and on real film—from the 16mm film archives of historian Tommy José Stathes. The first Carnival program screened in the backyard tent of Goodbye Blue Monday in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York City, in June of 2009...and the rest is history! Whether live or online screenings, guests are treated to a surprise potpourri of carefully curated selections (no advertised titles!) with topical, seasonal, or just-for-fun program themes as the only hint. It's a unique experience you're sure to enjoy.

We need assistance after experiencing a major loss of income during the pandemic. Visit our GoFundMe to help. Thank you!

It's time for two big batches of 16mm (no digital!) animated cartoons from the 1920s through the 1950s, straight from the Tommy José Stathes Archives—screened *in person* on Rubulad's silver screen!

For program #98, we're hosting *two entirely unique* programs of creepy, spooky animated oddities and curiosities in celebration of the Halloween season. This scary selection features many Cartoon Carnival mainstays...from silent era superstars Felix the Cat and Koko the Clown, to later Golden Age favorites such as Betty Boop, Popeye and many others.

Be sure to bring all your family and friends out for this much-anticipated opportunity to see these classic and now-rare cartoons the way they were meant to be seen—projected on 'reel' film, and enjoyed with a physical audience!

Rubulad will have bar refreshments and some light snacks available (typically regular and vegetarian hot dogs, possibly also hamburgers). Please support the venue for all drinks consumed. Bar/food are cash only.

-This show WILL sell out -
We have a limited capacity. You and your friends must grab advance tickets quickly, while you still can!
