DISCLAIMERHistorical films and animated cartoons occasionally included content that is recognizably racist and sexist. Exaggeratedly bigoted imagery was far more commonplace in pop culture and regularly consumed by the general public at the time. The films included in these retrospective programs are shown as historic period pieces; they may contain instances of such material, but are at times nevertheless included for thematic reasons and educational purposes. The contents of these films do not reflect the views or values of the exhibitor or host, and we do not condone or excuse these flawed sentiments—we simply acknowledge them as a real part of our history, and propose that they serve as a reminder of problems that are still ever-present in our world. By purchasing a viewing ticket and viewing the program, you acknowledge and accept that the program may contain material of this kind.
Note: We do not generally advertise specific films in the programs, and the content is chosen based on the them of the specific program. Program titles and posters usually indicate the type of content to expect. The contents are a surprise. |
Fall 2021 Update
Now that the Cartoon Carnival has returned to in-person showings in the New York City area, the focus of this page will be to try and offer virtual, streaming versions of these same programs, On Demand, sometime after they take place in person. The process of recording certain elements of these events and editing them, then converting them for online viewings is a lengthy process. Stay tuned as we slowly add more offerings to this page. All VOD purchases fund our ongoing archiving and exhibition efforts. In the meantime, we are fundraising to help offset a major loss of event income experienced during the pandemic. Any help you can lend at our new GoFundMe campaign here is much appreciated. With much gratitude, Tommy José Stathes |
